Tuvalu Experience

 


Today was a special day because we had special guests come over. First we learnt about facts and clothing about Tuvalu. Tuvalu is the fourth smallest country on earth. Also the population of that country is about 11,000. 


Second we learnt about a myth called Sina and Tinilau. It is when a girl who begs for dad to make her something made out of the most beautiful flowers on the island. Last we learnt about a dance, it was just a fun dance and it was a amazing experience.

Maori Language Celebration

 At 12 pm we stood up and sang a waiata and all of us did it. We do this because in 1840 in the Treaty, they were promise to keep Maori but no one did it. So in 1972 30,000 people signed a paper which was called a petition and so from on we learn Te Reo Maori.

Game Master

 T could go to his friend Jack and open up to him. T could go to the gym and lift weights. Also T could go to the church minister and talk to him or go to the councils at school.

Measuring Tapa Cloth

 

Task Description: 

For this we had maths from Mrs Ilaoa and it was great. We had to find the area and the perimeter of a Tongan Tapa Cloth. Thank You Mrs Ilaoa for the Task.

Jonah Lomu

Task Description:
For this task I had to pick a Tongan Hero and my Hero was the best rugby player, Jonah Lomu. This task was very fun and interesting because I've went into detail about Jonah Lomu. Thank You Ms Tapuke for the task.

The Story of Kava

 Once upon a time, There was a family of three and in a barren island with nothing on it. There were Tu’i Tongan men and the king landed on that island. They found the family and they were respectful but the king needed food. So the father looked for food but there was none so they sacrificed their only daughter to feed the king. They buried the daughter and Plants started to grow and that is what they fed the king. One of the plants was so from now on they honor the daughter and that's why kava is important to Tonga.

Maui Dolphin



Maui Dolphin




The Maui Dolphin is the one of the most endangered species in Aotearoa/ New Zealand.

Common name Maui Dolphin

Scientific Name Cephalorhynchus Hectori Maui


Physical Description

Maui Dolphin grows up 1.2 to 1.5 meters in length and weighs up to 50 kgs. They have half distinct round shaped dorsal fins. They are shiny too.



Habitat Location

They are found only in the shallow coastal waters along western shores of New Zealand's North Island. Also they are always under the water 20 meters deep. They are always far away from land.



Diet

The Maui Dolphins feed on heaps of kind fish such as Red Cod, Ahuru, and Sole. They feed throughout the water column, on both bottom-dwelling fish and free swimming prey.



Reproduction cycle:

Due to the small population of the Maui Dolphin they grow very slow. The Dolphin mature around 7-9 years old and can give birth every 2-4 years old. Maui Dolphins might grow 2% a year.

Current Population Numbers

The scientist estimated that there are 62 left in the world. The Maui dolphin population has gone down from around 1500 in the 1970s.

Reasons for species are endangered

Because they keep dying from nets and now there is only a small left. They Keep dying from gill nets and trawls nets.

Future outlook

In 2050 the whole of the Maui dolphins will be extinct and none will be alive.

Tongan Language Week

 Interesting facts about Tonga | Just Fun Facts

This week is Tongan language week. Tongan week is where we celebrate and use the richness of the Tongan pride. The theme of the year is "Fakakoloa 'o Aotearoa 'aki 'a e Lotu Mo'oni" which in English means "Enriching Aotearoa New Zealand through Prayer and Faith".


Tongan Facts:


  1. Tonga has a disappearing island 

  2. A humpback whale travels 3,000 miles to breed and give birth in Tonga 

  3. Niuafo'ou used to be called “Tin Can Island”
